CUT OFF (2005) is Re-TROS’s debut six-track EP: a stark, disciplined reimagining of post-punk and experimental rock, featuring sound contributions and in-studio collaboration with Brian Eno. Concise yet conceptually ambitious, the EP established the structural and textural approach that would define the band’s future work.
Watch Out! Climate Has Changed, Fat Mum Rises… (2009) marks a bold evolution for Re‑TROS, pairing post-punk austerity with atmospheric intensity. Produced by Damon McMahon (Amen Dunes), who also contributed guitars and vocal textures, and engineered by Charles Burst, New York–based drummer and studio engineer with credits across Julian Plenti (Paul Banks), Neko Case, and AC Newman. Saxophonist Li Tieqiao brings free-form, improvisational breath into the band’s structured sound.
The album’s cover art was designed by Jonathan Leijonhufvud, the Swedish drummer of P.K.14 and a graphic designer. A playful twist in his design: while the lyrics printed in the album do not match the actual recordings, each letter’s frequency of appearance in the real lyrics is meticulously tallied and printed on the inner pages, creating a hidden statistical puzzle for attentive listeners and design fans.
Before the Applause (2017) is Re‑TROS’s third full-length album, released as a double LP to emphasize its immersive, texturally rich sound. Produced and engineered by Hector Castillo (David Bowie, Björk), the record was recorded across Rubber Tracks (Brooklyn), Chez Chérie (Berlin), and Kong Studio (Beijing). The album blends angular post-punk, electronic minimalism, and hypnotic rhythms, showcasing the band’s meticulous structural approach while leveraging the vinyl format to create a deliberate, cinematic listening experience.
